Hay Fire

Last week, East Avon with mutual assistance from Lima were sent to a farm on Pole Bridge Rd. in our district for a hot hay investigation. As hay bales sit in piles, sometimes they combust when exposed to open air creating a much larger problem. Interior temperatures of these bales typically are over 190 degrees. Mutual aid was requested from Avon, Livonia, and Caledonia to stand-by as the pile was dismantled and moved away from near-by barns, making it easier and safer to extinguish the bales as they ignited. Thank you to our mutual aid partners for helping us prevent a much larger incident.
